Accessibility statement
Gift of Language should work for every learner, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or captions.
How far we meet the standard
This website partially conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. Partially means that most of the site meets the standard, and the gaps listed below do not yet.
What is not accessible yet
- Captions on episode videos (WCAG 1.2.2). The videos have no captions yet. Until they do, the episode page shows the full lesson below the video: every word, its meaning in English and Hindi, its examples and the common mistakes. Captions are being added.
- Audio description (WCAG 1.2.5). We are checking that the narration says everything the video shows on screen.
What we have done
- Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus ring that the sticky bars on tests do not cover.
- Pages reflow to a 320-pixel-wide screen and work at 200% zoom and with wider text spacing.
- Text and controls meet the contrast ratios of WCAG 2.2 AA; buttons and links are at least 24 by 24 pixels.
- Forms have labels, say what went wrong, keep what you typed, and work with password managers. No puzzles or CAPTCHAs are used to sign in.
- Charts have text equivalents, and timed tests warn you before the time runs out.
- Help is in the same place on every page: the Help, Contact and Complaints links in the footer.
